For 27 years, Franz Milacher was chief conductor of Postmusik Salzburg. He started with a modest ensemble of 17 musicians, which he turned into one of the best symphonic wind orchestras in Austria. Today, Postmusik Salzburg includes over 80 musicians and is known far beyond the borders of Austria. On May 13, he conducted his orchestra for the last time and handed over the baton to his successor, Martin Schwab.
In the almost sold-out Grand Festival Hall (Großes Festspielhaus), the audience experienced “The Best of Franz”, the musical highlights and favourite master pieces by Franz Milacher and Postmusik. The orchestra played in top form – at the same time, this farewell concert was a moving moment for many musicians.
As a thank you for his tireless commitment in the service of the orchestra, Postmusik Salzburg appointed Franz Milacher to their honorary conductor and the Austrian Brass and Wind Music Association awarded him the Silver Cross of Merit.
Franz, you will always remain in our hearts. It was an honour to play together with you and we say THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC!!!
