Conductor Martin Schwab did not promise too much when he announced the 2024 autumn concert with a journey through magical worlds.
With the overture to Hansel and Gretel by E. Humperdinck, the audience was immersed in a mystical, dreamy fairytale world – and just a step (or a piece) further on, the glittering world of the Ice Queen (Frozen), embodied by vocal soloist Astrid Hinterberger-Stumpfl, was already waiting to be discovered.
Postmusik Salzburg impressed not only with the technical brilliance of each individual member of the orchestra, but above all with their excellent ensemble playing and an outstanding and multi-faceted overall sound that made even the finest contours audible.
The journey continued and Ludwig Deopito drew wonderful soundscapes with his trumpet (Landscapes for Trumpet by Haeck) and delighted the audience.
The star of the evening was tenor Sebastian Fuchsberger with Freunde das Leben ist lebenswert by Franz Lehár, Granada and The Prayer (in duet with Astrid Hinterberger-Stumpfl).
The first part of the concert concluded with a truly grand finale, namely that of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in an arrangement by Robert Kuchertz as a plea for peace, joy and unity among people. The vocal soloists were Diana Paul, Erika Garcevicé, Mantas Garcevicius and Sebastian Fuchsberger.
The orchestra opened the second part of the concert with Faszination, a concert march by Sepp Leitinger.
Martin Schwab then set sail with Captain Jack Sparrow and At World’s End, a symphonic suite from Pirates of the Caribbean by H. Zimmer and E. Rozendom, set sail. With the courage of a young pirate, 11-year-old Manuel Halek sang a solo at the beginning of this brilliant orchestral work.
With a great deal of humour and a medley of Elton John’s best hits, Postmusik Salzburg bid farewell to the completely enthusiastic audience, who thanked them with standing ovations.
Postmusik would like to thank Roland Hebesberger, whose charming presentation guided the audience through this truly enchanting evening.
